I havent personlly gone into the pros and cons of it so cannot comment, i really think it like everything else it is a personal choice, however up until a few months ago i never had really heard much about it.

It does however before i look into it seem to be another natural thing that is so perfectly thought of and planned out. If only we could get life today to take a detour back to many  many many years ago, I think we would be better off in so many ways.

Will be watching for the Info Hather

Quote:
Lotus Birth ensures that the physical body is well cared for by ensuring that the baby receives the full quotient of the oxygen-bearing highly nutritious blood that is in the cord. The infant obtains 40 to 60 mL of 'extra' blood from the placenta if the cord is not tied until pulsations cease. The loss of 30 mL of blood to the newborn is equivalent to the loss of 600 mL to an adult. Common practice of immediate cutting of the cord before the pulsations cease deprives the newborn of a possible 60 mL of blood, the equivalent to a 1200mLhaemorrhage in an adult. This is a likely explanation of the strange phenomenon of weight loss that most newborns seem to endure. The new organism is put immediately under undue stress to reproduce the blood it was denied.

We must wonder too, whether the denial of the iron-rich cord blood is a contributing factor to the widespread cases of infant and childhood anaemia.

Valid thought Hather

I am a very strong believer about waiting for the cord to stop pulsating however there seem to be so many women that its just not a second thought, which again is there own opinion and preference, its the actual Keeping the placenta attached and letting it fall off in its own time that i seem to not know enough about yet to come to a conclusion.

As for the pulsating im in agreeance with this one.

Wow that's really interesting.

And it makes an enormous amount of sense too doesn't it.

I found what Sarah Buckley had written about her 3 lotus birthed children and how they had memories of their births and the 'love heart' relationship they had to their placentas.  This is truly remarkable and the more I think about it, it is true.  The placenta is the organ of love and nourishment in the womb, so it's not surprising that the children would have love feelings about it.
I am a true believer in the physiological third stage of labour, but I must admit the little bit I have read about lotus birthing until now didn't make a lot of sense.

Food for thought for me.    Smile

I will lotus unless I need the placenta for bleeding or PND.
I don't think you can make placenta pills 5 days after birth, as it would most certainly lose it's benefits once it decomposes  Laughing
