Mainstream schoolingAm I the only one with my kids in 'mainstream' schools?

No, I have sent some of my children to mainstream schools.
It suits some families and not others.
You just need to follow your gut, if your children are miserable there, you obviously wouldn't force them to go.
Society believes that even though school sucks for most children, that it's just a part of life and they need to go anyway.
I don't believe that to be the case. If children feel unsafe, it's because they usually are.
If children are struggling to keep up with the work, then they need to be taught somewhere else with a different method/style of education.
Most people who believe in attachment parenting, don't believe they should stop parenting like that at school age, but it should continue on for many more years, especially primary school age years. You can't practice attachment parenting if other people are bringing up your children 5 days a week

Goddess i too have got my children in school. well one in year two and one in kindy, they attend a christian college about 20mins drive each way for me so not too bad but i wasnt sure at all about what to do for schooling.
I went into a couple of places, come public and some private schools and then i met with the head of the jr school of this one and from that very interview i knew where i wanted my children to go, I felt comfy and like my children would be safe in their hands, i followed my gut feeling and im thankful each day for it.
Im also lucky that they have a creative learning centre and if children are talented or lacking in some areas they just work with them during class and find a way to overcome whatever it is that may be the issue. Im extremely happy with where my children are.
My sister home schooled for a while and found the hardest thing for her was the responsibilty she took on for their education and what they were learning. but she loved the time she did it with them.
I personally dont think i could do it but that is just me.
I am eager to hear people opionions and reasons for home schooling as it does interest me i just dont think i could do it.

My main reason for homeschooling is simply because my children hate school.
Why make a child go to a place for 80% of their childhood that they can't stand?
I have looked into Steiner education which will suit my children much better than mainstream school, but there's a huge waiting list right now.
I will homeschool my 7 year old daughter till she can't start at Steiner.

My oldest will start public primary school next year, however if it doesn't suit her, I'll homeschool instead. Whatever works for all of us, I certainly don't want her to be miserable at school like I was

My 3 older kids go to the local catholic school.....Not because they are catholic but because I liked the school and its teachers and I there was NO way my kids were going to the local public school .....I wasn't happy with the teachers or alot of the students that go there 
So far they are all happy and we have had very few problems....when we have had any problems the teachers are all great and are easy to approach and talk too and the problems have been dealt with quickly 
My eldest is is very advanced and they have happily moved her up to her level rather then just stick her with the rest of the class......At the end of last year (she was in Year 1) she was on a year 3 level So very pleased with my choice especially since I have heard a few complaints from mothers with their kids in the other school having their kids held back at the average class level 
I would have loved to home school but I really don't have it in me to be a teacher........I struggle with helping them with home work  Thats Dhs job .he has way more patience then me for that sort of thing  I also think they really benefit from the school social interaction JMO

Only one of my kids so far would I say would have been better off in an alternate school system to the public system. He learns a different way (he's 'dyslexic', if it needs a name).
The other 3 are cruising along, and love it... well now we have moved.

Nope, Lucy is in a public school. She absolutely loves it and is thriving. We still have a wonderful bond. She is very advanced and I did a lot before she started school, and still do a lot, of work with her, because she needs extra learning. I did briefly think about home schooling, but I just don't think it is for us. I hardly have the time to do everything with the boys and house that need doing in a day let alone giving lessons. It used to be an ideal for me, but sadly it wont work for me, iykwim. I have also been quite sick for the last 18ish months so somedays it is hard for me to open my eyes. Sam will be starting preschool next year, possibly, depending on how his extreme shyness is going, he may stay back another year. (In ACT preschool is attache to the public school, and is essentially free as it is part of the school learning) Jackson is 2 years after that :O
